trymahjong
Yup! Side by Side is a concept that people escorting preschool bike riders know the importance of.
004n063
A 10-foot sidewalk isn't even particularly wide, especially if it is where bicycles are expected to go. The sidewalks on Main Street downtown are generally 16-20 feet and they still feel narrow in places.

This seems to be a hard concept for people to understand. your scenario is while valid, seems to be a bit of an edge case. 3' sidewalks are unacceptable, they do not even allow for people walking to even pass each other and stay on the sidewalk without getting into personal space. they are far too narrow. 10' is great to provide complete coverage for almost every situation possible, including yours. 5' provides for the most common scenarios, while perhaps still causing issue for the edge cases. people are able to walk on the sidewalk without stepping off to pass people going the other way, and also for groups to walk 2 wide going the same direction. 3' encourages people to not walk, 5' provides a solution for most who might want to walk and won't discourage people from choosing a walk instead of a drive. 10' is great where there is ROW, but I'd submit if the ROW can support 10' sidewalks on both sides, maybe there should be 5' sidewalk, and 5' bike path, rather than a 10' sidewalk.

For the most part, I find myself walking hand in hand with grandkids on either side who are probably yammering to hold the hand of someone on the other side or the leash of the dog or the handle bars of trainingwheeled bike etc etc etc- you get the idea 10' sidewalks solve a lot of potential walking configurations. trymahjong
Gotcha i have that same problem with the pro- trees =>anti 10 ft sidewalk posters of the Montrose Blvd proposal. Geez, like counting hens teeth to try and present facts to them-- lots of knee jerk snipe shots my way as I seem to be in their cross hairs-- just because, I came to a different conclusion after I read all they had to post but just didn't agree with them. It didn't seem to take much for those Nextdoor discussion threads to turn dark.

I think HGAC represents another route regarding state and/or federal funding. They have tiers regarding plan priorities for projects (one for 20 year plan, one for 10 year, and then one for 4 year). I'd rather drink bleach. I shared a pic of the boulevard with it flooding. Jonna Hitchcock then went on to claim I clogged the drain on purpose to get a doctored photo. These people are delusional. There was a very rude public speaker whose name was Jacob that was super disrespectful towards the mayor. After he finished speaking and Abbie Kamin thanked the mayor for working with her, the mayor thanked that rude man for his engagement and told him he made a difference. I give the mayor credit for sitting there quietly through that verbal abuse. He’s got very thick skin. Abbie knows you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Take notes.

I didn't feel he was rude or disrespectful. He made very valid points and criticized exactly what the mayor has done. The mayor hasn't been transparent at all up to this point. I will say though I think he's learning very quickly what the people of this city want which is why many projects are moving forward.

Just hilarious in light of the Mayor's recent IG comment on Hidalgo's fiance. It's difficult to take such comments seriously, but perhaps they were intended in jest . . . in which case . . . trymahjong
Soooooooo The storm knocked down one of “The three Sisters” oaks at that cemetery on Montrose at Allen Parkway? Edited July 11 by trymahjong
j_cuevas713
That's one of the trees the SaveTheMontroseLiveOaks group fought for to get historical designation from the state to kill sidewalks on that side of the boulevard. The cemetery owner also supports the Montrose Boulevard design and wanted the healthy trees moved and the dead one removed.
trymahjong
Of course there was a huge discussion ( the position of the Cementary folks as well as the Montrose TIRZ folks was brought up many times)of those trees on the Montrose Nextdoor site. I mean just post after post, rant after rant……but as happens so many times- a few come late to the subject and want to question…….”why?” Why Cementary didn’t make their position know to COH ? Why— if trees were in danger of falling- did TIRZ want (In reality- TIRZ didn’t want)sidewalk on that side of Montrose Blvd anyway……. All new yadayadayada……🙄
