You have to remember, downtown was basically the whole city. I don't think Montrose had even been developed yet when these were built.

Here is one at 2908 Main at Anita

I might have that book called "Houston Then & Now". That area was definitely Midtown. Also the section between downtown and the warehouse district, where the GRB is and the rest of the surface parking had a lot of beautiful wood framed housing. Here is a house turned office building on Milam that might represent what stood in Midtown. The building is in need of help as you can tell.

That's the one I was talking about that used to face McGowan and had real elaborate Gardens. The owners, the McDuff's I think, built the apartment building facing McGowan at the corner of Milam. This house used to face it.
