Former police chief Troy Finner

Recommended Posts

Finner got caught by the “gotcha” media.  They are really disgusting…

but on to the next guy…meanwhile the real issue of lack of resources at HPD continues unaddressed.

Poor Satterwhite…I hope he has a lily white record…which none of us do…

What is "gotcha media?"  Looks to me like a local news organization doing exactly its job — Holding the powerful accountable.

Do you call it "gotcha police" when a cop pulls you over for speeding?

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

From Axios, regarding Finner’s resignation:

  • The move came after an email surfaced showing he was aware officers were dropping investigations due to a "lack of personnel" years before he claimed to have found out.

CBS 11 KHOU-TV Houston discussed the suspended cases scandal as well. Plus one of their investigative reporters exposed Finner's lies.

Supposedly Whitmire is after Dallas' top cop Eddie Garcia.

Dallas media is putting on an all-out blitz to try to keep Garcia in Dallas.

We'll see if Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson (R) & Co., can prevent Garcia from leaving the Big D.

From what I've heard, Rice University political science professor Bob Stein thinks it'll be awhile before Whitmire appoints a permanent HPD Police Chief.

Basically: Satterwhite will be the interim Police Chief for awhile.

Based on Stein’s comments in the Houston Press article I don’t think he has any intimate knowledge of what or when Whitmire will act.

In any event Dallas leaders are keen to keep their police chief:

Aranda said it’s no secret that García wants a contract, adding officials should’ve done something a year and a half ago when requests for one were first voiced. But, he said, the city appears dedicated now in trying to keep García.

Let's hope for Johnson's sake, Garcia stays in the Big D with a new contract.

"Eddie Garcia won't be Houston's new police chief. Dallas' top cop to stick with job through 2027"

Interesting to see if Whitmire will expand the search for a full-time replacement on nationwide level ?

He was asked about it today but didn’t give any clues.

There was an article in the DMN about Chief Eddie Garcia’s compensation plan.  He was promised to be the highest paid police chief in Texas through 2027.  So if the new Houston police chief makes more than Garcia the city of Dallas will increase Garcia’s salary.  According to the DMN, Finner was making $298K in December so Garcia was given an immediate bump to $306K.  Talk about desperation.

Whatever happened to meritocracy?  Finner managed a police force of 5,000 officers compared to Dallas’ 3,000.

These days it's more of a supply-and-demand problem.  Lots of cities are having a hard time finding police chiefs.  And those that have good ones (or even mediocre ones) don't want to risk letting them go and get stuck with a revolving door of poor performers for years.

Big question is whether Satterwhite will get the full-time job as HPD Police Chief ?

Do you think he wants it?  I wouldn't do it, even for Houston Zoo money.

Interesting turn of events… Finner has turned on John Whitmire..

Exclusive: Former Police Chief Troy Finner alleges he was pushed out to bury HPD scandal

Why would Whitmire want to bury HPD scandal?  In fact, isn’t this perfect timing for him to throw more shade on Sylvester Turner, especially if Turner runs for the SJL seat?

It doesn’t make sense to me…

Katy police chief Noe Diaz will be the Houston Police Department's new chief, Whitmire says

Months of searching for Houston's next full-time police chief ended with Mayor John Whitmire naming J. Noe Diaz, leader of the less than 100-person Katy Police Department, as Troy Finner's replacement in charge of the nation's fourth-largest city's law enforcement agency.

"The comments I've gotten are that he's a fair, even-handed guy," said Mike Knox, a retired Houston Police Department officer and a Republican candidate for Harris County sheriff, of conversations he's had with Katy police officers. "He's not too political - he'll just follow the law and do his job."

So from rock star Dallas police chief Eddie Garcia we go to a guy that managed 70 officers…ok

I was warming up to Satterwhite myself but it wasn’t meant to be.

EDIT:  Satterwhite has a new gig too….guess Whitmire wants a clean slate for the new chief.
