Let's keep this version civil.

Criticism of politicians is appropriate.  But do not let this devolve into campaign-style hysterical hyperbole.

Light, not heat.

I have questions on how Mayor get his information. Does he depend on aides? Did he take notes while a Texas Senator?

Whimtire's been in politics since 1973.

Well that really doesn’t get to the heart of how he obtains his information. IMO his staff has been woefully deficient in giving good back information…… on just about anything that has to do with Montrose.

Howdy from the Alamo City HAIF Family. Looks like HFD Fire Chief Sam Pena is officially out.

Any thoughts on Mayor Whitmire firing Chief Pena ? Don't think he's finished getting rid of the remaining holdovers from the Turner administration.

If you think the River Oaks Kroger is unsafe, how do you even go outside at that point? Ah yes the infamous River Oaks combat Kroger. If an old white guy doesn’t feel safe shopping in River Oaks, boy do I have news for him about the rest of the city.

Chaad is an utter clown.

Mr. Mayor, affectionately known as chaad, is building quite a diverse coalition…

Mayor John Whitmire to appoint Sandy Gaw to oversee Houston Public Library System
IMG_0812.jpeg.7b8378b30960ad12eb1b682478af6051.jpeg

Gaw was a teacher at the Houston Independent School District for 31 years, where she held a gamut of roles from being a fourth-grade bilingual teacher at Herrera Elementary, an assistant principal at Katherine Smith Middle School and principal at De Chaumes Elementary. She most recently served as an executive director, and was an assistant superintendent at the district.

“Sandy’s experiences as a driver of strategies that enhanced the effectiveness, and efficiencies of central office support systems will inform her work building better systems, processes, and procedures throughout our vast Houston Library system,” Whitmire wrote in a memo to council members posted in meeting agenda documents Friday. “She is fluent in three languages and has worked in diverse communities across Houston.”

The library system, which is more than 120 years old, consists of 40 locations.

No disrespect intended toward Ms. Gaw, but as far as I can tell neither her nor the interim executive director that preceded her seem to have any actual experience related to public libraries. The previous executive director held a Master's degree and a doctorate in library and information science. The Mayor's quote above is unfortunately all too typical of those who have bought into the lie that management techniques are more important than actual knowledge of the relevant discipline.  Yet another depressing signpost on the path toward the public devaluation of expertise.

And yet with all those degrees and expertise she created a hostile work environment.  Maybe some good people management skills are a priority for the new director.
