Bayland Orphans' Home For Boys On Bayland Ave.

Recommended Posts

What a rarity! I found a photograph of Henry C. House taking the orphans to the movies in downtown Houston at the Majestic Theatre.

Photograph is dated April 15, 1913.

I could never locate an official address, or even a map/master plan.  If anyone has more information feel free to chime in! This was a 35-acre campus in what is now Woodland Heights

1913 location:

W of Beauchamp Springs, n bank White Oak Bayou, 2 miles nw of city.

1917 location:

W end Bayland Av. Wd. Hts.

A map from 1920 specifies the Bayland Home Add. and then empty space below it.  I'd imagine the 35 acre campus was located there.  Or, given the date, the homes were built on top of the (demolished) Bayland Orphan's Home.
