Dacoma DPS Closed

Recommended Posts

i lost my wallet now i need a new license. i wish i had written down the

number on the side to renew/reorder on line -- but alas, i now have to go to

the dacoma DPS. when i get there, it's closed due to renovations and without

any sign or posting stating where else to go.

on the way back downtown, there is the main department of transportation

building. there is a visitor's entrance and i figure they may know where another

DPS is --- or at least have a phonebook.

the woman behind the information desk asks which DPS location i tried to visit

and tells me the dacoma site has been closed for over thirty years. phooey.

thought i'd give the heads up to the rest of you --- copy down that little number

on the side of your license photo and keep it somewhere outside your wallet ---

it could save you a trip to the DPS (or a DPS hunt, anyhow).

Are you sure you were at the right place? I renewed my drivers license at the Dacoma DPS office about 30 DAYS ago.

The website shows it still there. Here's a list.

Jeez, Red (voice dripping heavily with sarcasm)... with that kind of accuracy, mabye you ought to apply to DPS  . The link brings you to this:"If an employee or division provided outstanding service or if you have suggestions for improvement, please let us know." hehe!

Anyway, you'd think that their website could be more easily navigated. Nowhere on that page did I see a link to offices.

So far as that employee who told torvald that the Dacoma location has been closed for 30 years; it's the only DPS office I've ever been to. First in 1981, most recently in 2001.

DPS seems to go out of their way to irritate people. Shortly after I renewed my State ID (I don't drive) I moved. I was told it would be a $15 charge to change my address on the ID, and no, it didn't extend the period for which the ID would be valid. This amounts to a tax on Texas residents for moving. Screw 'em. I still have the wrong address on my ID. If that means I end up doing time, so be it.

And one last gripe; why can't they open an office inside the Loop? Not all transactions can be accomplished over the internet, and not everyone lives out in the boonies.

phooey.

sorry i wasn't more thorough in my posting earlier i was UPSET!

i was trying not to say that the old bat at the dept. of transportation info both was

totally not with it. the problem was i drove out there (after getting there just after

close a few weeks ago while it was open) and it was closed for renovations. without

a posting of what other location was open i was irritated and when driving past the

transport office thought to inquire within and got ms. bat. when she said it had been

closed for 30 years --- i almost said, oh crap back to the time machine then, guess

i've got the wrong year --- but that would be rude and especially because of her

age, disrespectful. i am seriously surprised she was in charge of the information

desk.

the number that i needed to go online to renew is the little number printed in the

side of the photo in conjunction with my TXDL#. with each new issue the number

changes, so although my employer had a photocopy of my license when hired, it

was not the proper number (running along the side).

when i was out today i had come back here to find another DPS and typed that

vague post above. it was driving out there to the dacoma branch (that a few

weeks before had no posting about the impending closing) that irritated me.

when i went to the Dover Street branch, that location had every other location

listed on the outside door for folks to see.

i will say that it was horribly hard finding that smaller location but it was less of

a wait and they were very polite there. i also drove past an old mason's lodge

that has been renovated into a century 21 office building and a bunch of neat

old houses.

sorry i was so vague --- and a grump as well!

Could this have been her? :D

Dammit, it didn't look like that when I clicked on it at 2:30! It was actually useful, then!
