JJxvi
Pluckers will be opening a place on Shepherd north of Washington Ave, according to their twitter feed.
kbates2
Watch out for the fire in the hole wings. They are aptly named.
Marksmu
I recently ate the new Ruggles on 11th...and though a bit pricey for a chicken sandwhich, it was probably the best chicken sandwhich I have ever had...the fries were superb as well. The entire experience was excellent. Ordered, and food arrived maybe 7 minutes later, exactly as ordered and everything was great..thats pretty fast for 2 adult entrees and 1 kids one. I could have eaten another sandwhich it was so good. Also very happy that they worked out a lease on that parking lot. Even though 11th street cafe was terrible, I would have gone sometimes if it were not such a pain to park....In summary....The new Ruggles was excellent! SilverJK
Mark, I agree it is an excellent addition. My wife and I have walked there a few times so far (~ 1 mile walk each way). Are you talking about the roasted chicken sandwich with the plantains and all that other stuff on it? If so, that is a freaking awesome sandwich. Not quite Heights, but I finally made it over to Crisp the other day. Pretty nice spot and food was good (pizza seemed very popular). I've never seen so many mid-20s to mid-30s anglos in one place before in Houston. Not sure if thats the norm, but it was definitely telling of the demographic shift of Shady Acres. Marksmu
It was their plain ole grilled chicken sandwhich...it came with cucumbers, lettuce, tomato, pickles, on a toasted bun and with some kind of fry that was made in heaven. I say it was overpriced, but I liked it so much that I would pay for it again and again.

JJxvi
OK, it's bound to be where Maggie Rita's used to be. 1400 plain old Shepherd not North or South. Chronicle messed up the address.

Angostura
Any update on Fat Cat Creamery, I know they were shooting for early June (so i suspected August in the earliest). There's now a rendering up on the corner of the site, but very little other activity. I wouldn't expect an opening date this summer. Safe rule for restaurants in Houston requiring a build-out is announced opening date + 6 months.
s3mh
Any update on Fat Cat Creamery, I know they were shooting for early June (so i suspected August in the earliest). I have seen work on the interior that looks like work for the mechanicals and plumbing. I suspect that this is the heavy lifting that has slowed things down since the first estimate on opening. Glad things are moving along inside. From the outside, the difference between the actual situation and the rendering led me to conclude there is a lot of work left to be done. s3mh
Yucatan Taco Stand is going into the old Stella Sola/Bedford building.Wow. Was it really worth it to miss out on a year's worth of rent for this tenant? I wonder whether all the local restaurant talent wouldn't touch the location with a ten foot pole after the dust up with Killen and loss of Stella Sola. I will never understand commercial lessors. On a related note, Torchy's has their build out permits and is doing a lot of work on the interior now. My guess would be 4-6 weeks to completion. diggity
Yucatan Taco Stand is going into the old Stella Sola/Bedford building. from looking at the menu and reviews, it sounds a lot like Taco Milagro.
Angostura
Yucatan Taco Stand is going into the old Stella Sola/Bedford building. Heights residents will not want for yuppie tacos. This makes 4 in the Heights proper (along w/ Berryhill, Torchy's & Tacos a go-go).

JCR
Do you own the franchise?? No. This info came from a Heights restaurateur and a local real estate lawyer. Which reminds me I should have asked last night about the Studewoodish over saturation or potential thereof. The Tex/Mex joint going in at corner on White Oak, now the Yucatan place 4 block away. The midrise on 10th looking for a restaurant tenent, etc. There is already good Mex on Main and few block further on Airline. I will never understand commercial lessors. My sources just roll their eyes regarding this saga. The layout of the building itself which is not optimal for a restaurant. Big sq footage = big rent. Need lots of covers to make it work. The contractual nonsense, etc. Killen was smart to bail. Overhead at his new place will be a better deal. You cannot get in the door at Teotihuacan on Friday or Saturday night. Yucatan is more upscale and might find a niche in the Heights. You cannot get in the door at Teotihuacan on Friday or Saturday night. Yucatan is more upscale and might find a niche in the Heights. I can wait in line for good Tex/Mex or Mexican, but this is Tacos Yucatan del norte: "now open in OKC, Ft worth and the Woodlands". Kind of reminds me of the Tamale Factory on Studewood/11th that had the “best tamales south of the border”. We'll see, their website description suggests a mishmash of Latin American culinary stereotype-branding that could appeal to the late night White Oak crowd, but The El will have them locked up. I really like how these folks are doing little neighborhood bars, like D&T instead of trying to pile more on White Oak and Studemont or along Washington Ave.
SilverJK
except if it was next to your house you'd probably complain. I'm excited about this place opening. I'm a bit confused though... isn't Volcano under the sun technically a Tiki bar? Did it close when I wasn't looking?
JJxvi
I assume you mean Under the Volcano on Bissonett. That is a tiki bar, but I guess it doesn't fit their ridiculous uber casual tiki bar vision. Edited June 27, 2013 by JJxvi
