Subdude
Good post. For some reason there are relatively few books about Houston. Most of what I have were dug up at Half Price Books or Brazos. A few other good ones that you can find new areHouston Freeways by Max ConcreteEphemeral City from Cite MagazineHouston Then and Now by William Dylan PowellHistoric Houston by Betty Trapp ChapmanHouston Electric by Steven BaronIf you're shopping used there are some good photo books, and anything by George Fuermann. Heights2Bastrop
Another entertaining source is the 4-episode PSB series, "Houston, Remember When". That sure brings bach a flood of memories.
dbigtex56
As a newcomer to Houston (quite a while ago) I enjoyed "Ray Miller's Houston"I might not otherwise have known that Lyndon B. Johnson was once a resident of my neighborhood. In the early 30's, he taught school in Houston and lived at the southeast corner of Hawthorne and Garrott. The house is still there. Houston19514
Those look pretty cool. But are they really available only in VHS format? Has PBS not heard of DVDs????
Subdude
The shows are a few years old, maybe at the time DVD wasn't as common. As I remember, they were mainly interviews with people reminiscing about the old days.
Houston19514
Understood, but an enterprising operation could still transfer them to DVD for sale/distribution in the 21st century
