A plethora of things have been happening at UH over the past couple of years. Whether that be the erection of multiple shiny buildings or the inclusion of a new billion-plus dollar endowment fund for the university. Along with a record freshman enrollment, new coach and facilities, and ever-increasing rankings and graduation rates makes me proud to be an Alumni. First, let's start with the soon-to-be-announced Freshman housing. On 8/20/2024 at 11:25 PM, hbg.50 said: with a price tag in $170 million range, I'm not surprised by the 1,000-bed number. I think this development is the catalyst to push for required freshman living, ya I know it's going to get a lot of pushback, but I won't be surprised if it pops up again in the near future with a good base of support. Now whether the university is prepared or not for it is a question to be answered. With a freshman enrollment of 6k+ (not including transfers), there's a good amount of expanding that needs to be done in order to house that many students. Although near-campus housing could pick up the slack in that regard if the city doesn't politically gimp development in the 3rd again. Up next is the new Medical Research Building. It seems UH is trying to launch its way into its own little TMC, most likely looking for a way to solidify itself as a huge medical research and development university in the near future. I could see UH's medical wing becoming a massive part of the university's image if it keeps expanding like this. The next few slides/screenshots are going to be about the master plan and the beautification of the campus. A lot of things in the pipeline for the grand Centennial in 2027. There seems to be another dining hall in the works, going to be quite a selection along with Cougar Woods, and Moody. Wonder why they're putting this one by Cougar Village? Was wanting them to put this one on the northern side of campus, but that might just be my OCD talking. The fountain area is going to be absolutely stunning when completed. Love that they're giving this area more room to breathe. This was already one of my favorite parts of the campus, so seeing it being built up to be a beautiful, lush park surrounded by historical buildings is a dream come true. Also, the university park update is huge for the university. that side is what the majority of newcomers first see when they arrive on campus. Right now that entrance has a lot to be desired, but with this update, it should transform it into an amazing corridor. There'll be quite a bit of demolition going on over the next few years. The demolition of Farish Hall is going to have the biggest impact due to where it's positioned on campus. Clearing out that building and putting a park over it is going to dramatically change that part of campus for the better. Also, RIP the College of Technology! Not going to miss the Technology Annex Building though, the new Innovation Hub is a massive step up from what's there. I'm all for keeping old buildings standing, but the Annex wasn't the most pleasant building around.
