Willowisp
I may have some time to drive around this weekend, so I searched through the open houses. Nothing amazing and mid-century is out there right now, but here are a few that piqued my interest, at least for having lots of windows.2201 Sunset Blvd http://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...mp;backButton=Y2108 CROCKER SThttp://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...mp;backButton=Y3714 N BRAESWOOD BLVD http://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...mp;backButton=Y10901 WILLOWISP DR - Saturdayhttp://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...mp;backButton=YJason

Jersey01
Wow the house on Crocker is cool. I love the brown brick fireplace, and the polished brick floors. This house has a great understated luxe look.

KinkaidAlum
2201 Sunset is a disaster. They tore down a beautiful old house on the corner of Shepherd to build that thing. The developer (it's a spec house) blatantly violated deed restrictions and tried to build a glass encased third floor party room way higher than anything allowed in the neighborhood without the necessary permits. When the Civic Association stepped in, the builder just stopped the project. It stood open to the elements for months as nothing was done on the house. I wouldn't touch that house with a ten foot pole. Additionally, the price has been lowered by about $600,000 since the first time I noticed it on the market nearly two years ago. Willowisp
Thanks for the info. I guess we'll skip that one and just hit Crocker and maybe Braeswood today. Got up late anyway...2201 Sunset is a disaster. They tore down a beautiful old house on the corner of Shepherd to build that thing. Willowisp
Crocker was very interesting. It reminded me a lot of Dwell Magazine. The architect definitely had some MCM influences. The bottom floor was the master bedroom suite, which could be closed off just beyond the stairway. It had brick flooring. The rest of the house had a dark hardwood flooring. The bathrooms had mosaic tiles along the lines of The Frame House restoration. The second floor had 2 small bedrooms as well as the living/dining room and kitchen. The third floor was a rooftop garden area with a bit of a view. You could see downtown peeking above some of the other townhomes. My wife was in love with the place.Braeswood was all mustard and mirrors. The house had good bones and an open plan, but it was not MCM friendly. A lot of art was painted directly on the walls instead of on canvasses. Kind of strange there. That bed was worth the trip though.JasonThanks for the info. KinkaidAlum
I've admired the Crocker ones since the beginning. HAR has had some photos of the progress along the way. Isn't this house part of a 3 unit effort? I think One or two of them were built around private pools. I've always wondered if the finished product turned out as nice as the early rendering. I would love to see them!
The Great Hizzy!
10901 Willowisp has too much front wall for me. I've never been a fan of that type of look.
Willowisp
Here's a cute little Meyerland ranch. Great location and lots of original features.http://www.har.com/6240662I may have some time to drive around this weekend, so I searched through the open houses. Jersey01
I checked out the Crocker house today. It is really a great house, definitely one of the best new construction residential projects that I've seen locally. The materials palette is nearly identical to what I would have chosen, and I NEVER say that. I want this one! Willowisp
Have they "smoothed up the edges" over there? The only thing that was discouraging to me was how unfinished the place seemed. For example, the doors were really hard to open. I can understand a little heaviness, but they were just near impossible to get in and out of...At any rate, someone with (hopefully) good taste and about a mil worth of credit is going to get a nice place to live.JasonI checked out the Crocker house today.
