Preservation's Humble BeginningsBefore America had official National Landmarks or historic districts, we had the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS). The HABS project began in 1933, putting to work thousands of unemployed architects, draftsmen, and photographers to document America's historic buildings. Two of The Heritage Society's structures, the 1847 Kellum-Noble House and the 1850 Nichols-Rice-Cherry House, were recorded during the earliest days of HABS. In the fall of 2011, three more of The Heritage Society's historic structures were added to the archive. This exhibit features the intricate architectural drawings and photographs from those surveys and shows how the information is used to preserve the structures for the future.
The Heritage Society is funded in part by a grant from the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.
Exhibit on view Tuesday, February 21-May 20, 2012. Museum Gallery open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. and Sunday, 1– 4 p.m.

Theatre Under the Stars presents La Cage Aux Folles.
Winner of three Tony Awards® including BEST MUSICAL REVIVAL, LA CAGE tells the story of Georges, the owner of a swanky and sexy Saint-Tropez nightclub, and his partner Albin, who moonlights as the glamorous drag queen songstress Zaza. When their son brings his fiancée (and her conservative parents) home to meet the flashy pair, the bonds of family are put to the test as the feather boas fly! LA CAGE is a tuneful and touching tale of one family's struggle to stay together ... stay fabulous ... and above all else, stay true to themselves! With a glorious score of hummable melodies and a dynamite cast featuring the notorious and dangerous chorus "girl" Cagelles, LA CAGE is an indisputable musical comedy classic, rewarded with Broadway's Tony in all three NYC incarnations ... and this extraordinary new version shows you why! You roared at the movie The Birdcage, now marvel at the music some call Jerry Herman's (Hello Dolly/Mame) best!
Star of stage and screen George Hamilton will star as Georges in LA CAGE AUX FOLLES! George Hamilton is noted for his dashing, sporting, jet-setter image and perpetually bronzed skin tones in commercials, dramatic and comedic film roles and reality shows.
